About Dan Hickok

My profession is in software, primarily in application development. I enjoy writing code that people can use. Currently I am a senior developer for a software-as-a-service firm, and I work in all layers of their applications, from the data layer to the user interface.

I have been a software developer for over four decades. My experience started in minicomputer systems before there was such a thing as personal computers. During my career I've seen the birth of the IBM PC, the rise of UNIX, and the transition from centralized computing, to distributed computing networks, to cloud computing. I've experienced the blossoming of software engineering and system architecture, and I've watched open source go from mere idealism to an established industry practice.

My education started in engineering, and while I eventually transitioned to and obtained a computer science degree, my love and respect for mathematics continues to this day.

While my name hints at my Midwestern roots, I have lived almost my entire life in California. I'm married and a devout Christian.
